The Polar Plunge is a popular event across the United States. It gives individuals, organizations, and businesses to support their local Special Olympics athletes. Participants plunge into the water (river, ocean, lake, pond or even pool) to raise money for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to train and compete in sporting events. This year, there will be two Polar Plunge events in Virginia for the southern and northern parts of the state: Virginia Beach and Dumfries.

The Northern Virginia Polar Plunge Festival will be held on February 24th at 1510 Cherry Hill Road. There will be live music, a costume contest and parade, and food and drinks available at the sponsoring restaurant, Tim's Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse. Participants who actively take the plunge will have to raise $100 and the top 5 teams who raise the most amount of money by midnight before the plunge will be entered into a drawing. If they win, they'll receive a 16-game ticket plan to watch the Potomac Nationals play, a crab feast at Tim's Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse, and 4 free airline vouchers to anywhere in the USA.

If you are attending, registration/check-in will be at 10AM and you can enjoy live music before the polar plunge starts. The costume contest starts at 2PM and the main event is at 3PM.
